A Walk Tour in Manila | On The Walls

After waiting for 30 minutes in front of the Metropolitan Theater, a fellow PLM student approached and asked me, "kasali po ba kayo ng Ehipto?"

"Ah, hindi eh, I'm here to watch it, kaya lang kanina pa ako dito mukhang wala naman palabas" I replied, "ngayon kasi naka-schedule yung nabili kong ticket, Jan. 30, 2011, 10:00 AM"

"Ay naku, hindi po ba kayo nasabihan, na-move na po yung show sa Feb. 13," he said.

"Oh my, it's ok, I'll just have a little photo walk in Intramuros," I said to myself.

It was around 10:30 AM when I left the neglected theater in Lawton. I was expecting a theatrical Sunday but it turned out to be another Intramuros walk tour. The sun was already striking with great hotness but I still went on to my adventure on the walls of Intramuros.

A Walk Tour in Manila | Beyond the Church

My original plan was to go to SM City Manila to buy some Bristol board for my herbarium project, but upon reaching the corner of Victoria Street and Burgos Avenue the plan has changed.

"Turn right to go left," said Hudson Hornet to Lightning McQueen from the movie Cars. So I turned right instead of left, towards the museum of the San Agustin Church. Many times I have seen this church and many times I have captured its marvelous antiquity, but never I did enter its museum. Not until 3:00 PM of the 23rd of January 2011.

A Walk Tour in Manila | Paco Park

I received an unexpected cake from my biomates. That's so sweet of them to give me one and I thank them for that. It is my 19th birthday, I really am getting older.

But before I received that sweet little present, we just took our Animal Histology Laboratory Exam, it's our midterms week, extremely stressful. I certainly need a break. Perhaps a walk tour will detoxify my brain cells.

A Walk Tour in QC | Small Circle to Big Circle

Quezon City has been dubbed as the “City of New Horizons” due to its rich culture and lifestyle. It lies just northeast of Manila. It is named after Manuel Luis Quezon, first president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. (Wikipilipinas)

I have been doing a lot of walk tour in Manila since Batang Lakwatsero was born last November 2010. There are still unvisited places in the city, still waiting to be discovered by my wandering feet. However, this morning, I thought of having a walk tour in QC, just one straight walk along the Quezon Avenue. I know this would be another "A Walk Tour Experience Series" - the first one is the "A Walk Tour in Manila Series" which already has three parts. This post will be the first in "A Walk Tour in QC Series".

Nuestro Padre Hesus Nazareno 2011

"Viva Viva Viva..." These were the words repeatedly uttered by the devotees as the image of the Black Nazarene approaches our location at the roof of an underpass near the Manila City Hall.

A Walk Tour in Manila | Churches Part 3

I still have three churches in my list and a day would be enough to visit them all.

My day started when I traveled back to Malate Church by jeep at around 1:00 PM. It is written at its marker that it was built in 1588 and Nuestra SeƱora de Los Remedios is its patron, hence the street beside the church is named Remedios. This church was used by the British troops as their headquarters in 1762. There's no information regarding the years after 1937 so I'm not sure if this too was destroyed during the Liberation of Manila in 1945.

A Walk Tour in Manila | Churches Part 2

My feet were still aching from yesterday's long walk, but my eagerness and my strong will to discover new things overcame this.

I left my home by 2:00 PM and went to Tondo to visit the churches there. The San Jose de Trozo Church in Masangakay street was my first stop. I believe that this pink church is not that much old but the name of the saint, Jose de Trozo, caught my curiosity. Until now, I'm still wondering who this San Jose de Trozo is. Maybe he's St. Joseph the spouse of Mama Mary. St. Joseph was a carpenter, and "Trozo" I think is a piece of wood. A carpenter and a wood is somewhat related. So probably he's St. Joseph the Carpenter. It's just a guess anyway.

A Walk Tour in Manila | Churches Part 1

Early this morning, I was reading traveler on foot's page. I found his posts about Manila which are very informative and fun to read. After an hour of reading and learning, I decided to have a real life experience of what I just read, a photowalk in Manila.

11:00 AM, the weather is perfect (not too hot, but won't rain), I left with nothing but my Olympus FE25 and my Metro Manila Accu-Map. I also brought with me a P140 pocket money plus my coin-filled frog purse. My destination - the old churches in Manila.
